Indian Chiefs

Indian Oratory of Eight Great Chiefs

I researched their speeches made to the American government and read about their lives before I touched the marble. Their words are appropriate in our time – their lives inspire me to speak up. The Shoshone and Arapahoe lived on the east side of the Wind River Range in Wyoming where my daughter and I love to hike. Whenever we climbed into Europe Canyon we’d sit on a rock and have lunch, staring down into the Wind River Reservation.

Gladys and Reginald Laubin, adopted by the Sioux, were dear friends of ours when we lived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I loved to listen to them tell stories about their lives among the Indians.
